"I'm Destined To Be Undisputed Champion" Says Tyson Fury Ahead Of Fight With Oleksandr Usyk
It is already a countdown to the anticipated undisputed heavyweight champion fight between Tyson Fury and Aleksandr Usyk which is scheduled to hold on February 2, 2024 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Fury has remained unbeaten throughout his career, however, he had a short spell of retirement from the sport before he returned to the ring and claimed the WBA title from Deontay Wilder, whom he defeated after three fights - two of the fights ended in draws.
Though, the Briton narrowly escaped defeat to UFC fighter Francis Ngannou in his last fight, he is yet certain that his fight with Usyk is going to go his way. He, in a press conference held on Thurday, issued a stern warning to the Ukrainian that he is "destined" to win and will become the undisputed champion.
"I'm destined to become the undisputed champion," said Fury. "And more than that, i'm destined to cement my legacy as the number fighter of this era."
Usyk, who is also a champion, earned his belts from back-to-back defeat of Anthony Joshua and has remained with the heavyweight titles - WBO, WBC, IBF, and IBO - eversince the victories.
Whilst the press conference was going on, Tyson went on to rant at his opponent promising him of getting "knocked out" and assured him of "getting smashed".
"You're getting smashed into pieces. Sausage," he warned. "You're fighting the best British heavyweight there's ever been. I come here to pick a fight."
Similar to Fury's last fight, Usyk recovered from Daniel Dublois' low-blow to his beltline that sent him to the floor to win in a knockout in the ninth round.
When Usyk went down in fifth round, he was allowed five minutes to recover from the blow which the referee ruled as accidental. He fought the remainder of the rounds in discomfort.
