Europa: Toulouse Hold Off Comeback To Beat Liverpool
Toulouse held off late comeback from Liverpool to win 3-2 and edged toward guaranteeing their place in the knockout stage as they are second in the table with seven points.
Aron Donnum put the Ligue 1 side ahead by scoring the opening from an individual effort. The second goal followed after halftime as Thijs Dallinga finished off Vincent Sierro's cross.
Liverpool pulled one back from Christian Casseres' own goal, which was soon followed by Toulouse's third goal from Fran Magri. He was left alone to stroke home Gabriel Suazo's rebound from Kelleher's save.
Diogo Jota later pulled another goal back for Liverpool before Jarrell Quansah finished off Darwin Nunez's loose shot but it was canceled by the VAR for offside.
Quick Overview
Having to lose the game have not forfeited Liverpool's chance to reach the knockout stages, rather it just has pushed that until another day. They top Group E with nine points. However, Toulouse played well and did not waste the chances gained from Liverpool's errors.
Tsimikas' sloppy hold of the ball handed out the scoring chance to Donnum. The second was not different either as Luis Diaz was disposed before Sierro launched a cross-field lob to Dallinga. The French side were just sharp on the counter and Dallinga just had a goal ruled out before he scored.
Though Liverpool later revamped to chase down the scoresheet but it was late, and even when they leveled the scores in the injury, the VAR ruled it out.
