Champions League: Ciro Immobile's Double Against Celtic Secures Lazio's Place In Knockout Stage

Lazio have sealed their place in the knockout stage with 2-0 win against Celtic with both goals coming from Ciro Immobile and that sent them atop the group.

Immobile put the side ahead by tapping home a deflected cross from Pavel Nedved from inside the box. He doubled the lead sooner after latching onto Gustav Isaksen's cross and rightly beat Joe Hart to the bottom left of the goal.

Celtic's only chance of getting back into the game from a penalty was canceled after the referee checked with the VAR. With two minutes left to play in the added minutes, the Scottish side went on to lose the game.

With no games remaining to play, Celtic's hope of making it through the stage is really in doubt as the Italian side can be assured they have just got through.

Quick Overview

Fair play for much of the first period, even as Celtic had very little to gain from winning, they held off continuous onslaught from Lazio in the early stages and gradually come into the game.

There were a couple of good chances that Lazio could not just worked out to get the needed goal to guarantee their place in the knockout stages. Anderson's attempt with a header from Guendouzi's cross stood the nearest moment to have got the lead but the ball bounced off over the crossbar to safety.

After halftime, Celtic did have fair moments in front of Lazio goal forcing an acrobatic save from  the closest coming from Provedel. Another moment was Carter-Vicker's strike that neatly got into Provedel's save.

The hosts left it late into the second half to get the goals, both which were within a space of three minutes. Celtic can be guaranteed of their exit from the competition being at the bottom of the group with just one point.

Luis Alberto could not get the goals he dearly wanted. He had a couple of scoring moments but sent the ball just to high to go across the crossbar. Until he was substituted, he made a fair impression on the game.

Immobile made the day for the hosts after coming on in the second period. Both strikes were neatly finished. The victory was just enough to sned Lazio atop the table of Group E.
