Angel Di Maria To Retire From International Football
Argentina international, Angel Di Maria has announced his retirement from international football after playing his last in the Copa America.
Di Maria, who currently plays for Benfica assisted his national team to win the Fifa World Cup for the third time in Qatar in 2022. Likewise, his career has been successful at club level for having won silverware at Real Madrid and Paris St-Germain which includes league titles and the Champions League.
"Thanks to the fans, thanks to my family, thanks to friends and teammates from the national team," said the 35-year-old speaking in Spanish.
He also recalled the recent incident of dispute amongst fans ahead of the world cup qualifying match between Brazil and Argentina that left several fans injured.
"Unfortunately, we can not overlook the event that occurred in the stadium," headded. "No one deserves that maltreatment, neither the blows, nor the families and frightened children in the midst of a stadium where the only thing that should have happened is watching and enjoying a match within the folklore of football."
