2024 Grammys: SZA Leads with Nine Nods As Davido, Asake, Others Get Thumbs Up

 


As music artistes gear up for yet another annual ecremony of the Grammy Award, African artistes have not missed out on getting recognitions for their craft. The 67th annual Grammy Awards event will hold on Feb. 4, 2024 and Nigerian artistes such Davido, Asake, Ayra Starr, Olamide and Burna Boy are amongst artistes nominated. 

American singer, SZA leads with nine nominations amongst which is Song of the Year, Album of the Year and Record of the Year. In those categories, SZA will be contending with other nominees such as Taylor Swift Billie Eilish, Miley Cyprus, Olivia Rodrigo and Jon Batiste. The three categories are all eight-nominee long. 

The nominations were announced on Friday and Davido who is making his first appearance for a Grammy, received three nods amongst which is Best Global Album for his new project, 'Timeless', Best African Performance for his hit song from the album, 'Unavailable', and also Best Global Music Performance for 'Feel'.

Likewise, in Best African Music Performance category, Olamide and Asake both of whom are debutting received joint nomination for Amapiano and female singer Ayra Starr also got a nod in the same category for her hit song, Rush

As Taylor will be vying to become all-time Record of the Year biggest winner with the fourth at next year event - she already won three from past events, Burna Boy is vying for his second Grammy and received most nods for a Nigerian artiste with four which include Best Global Music Album for 'I Told Them'; Best Melodic Rap Performance, 'Sitting On Top of the World'; Best African Music Performance for 'City Boys', and Best Global Music Performance for 'Alone.'
