Premier League: Mo Salah's Leads Liverpool Through Derby Against Everton

10-man Everton could not hold off Liverpool to get past them in the derby at Anfield and lost 2-0 to the hosts with Mo Salah contributing both goals.

Liverpool went ahead from a needless handball offence by Michael Keane for Salah to score the spot-kick, and the Egyptian forward struck home the second following a fast break led by Darwin Nunez.

Both came in in the late stages of the second half and 10-man Everton got punished in the 97th minutes after they had come out in search for the equaliser which eluded them.

It will be the hosts' fourth successive clean sheet in the Premier League against the Rafael Benitez led side. The  the points earned from the game moved atop the table; they stand to be shoved to second place should Manchester City beat Brighton.

Quick Overview of the Game

Great effort from Liverpool and it took not just having to play one-man down against Everton to win, rather multiple efforts until Luis Diaz's cross draw the penalty.

Daiz also drew the offence for Ashley Young's red card just on the brink of halftime. Losing Young, a much experienced defender, was a huge blow to Everton the defence.

Nevertheless, Keane's penalty offence was in now way a ball-to-hand, rather an attempt to get away with it. The VAR did not let him even when the referee had waived it off.

Nenuz was technically kept in close watch by Everton and had little chance to break in. Harvey Elliot made his presence felt with a 20-yard shot narrowly parried into safety by Jordan Pickford.

Initially, it might have seemed as Everton wanted to get something out of the game but going one-man down against Liverpool proved too costly despite playing defensive.
