Premier League: Heung min Son LeadsTottenham Hold Off Late Comeback From Crystal Palace

 


Tottenham refuted late scare from Crystal Palace to win 2-1 at White Hart Lane and maintained the lead of the Premier League table with five points clear. 

After a lackluster first half, Spurs moved ahead with Joel Ward deflecting home James Maddison's cross and Heung min Son doubled the lead, guiding home Brennan Johnson's cutback midway into the second half. 

Palace got fired up in the added minutes as Jordan Ayew finished off a Joachim Anderson's deep lob. Spur held their grounds against fired up Palace and won the game. 

Tottenham earned the maximum points for their biggest lead of the Premier League since their first with eight-point in 1960-61.

What a tensed and impressive game that turned out to be a scare for Spurs, who narrowly have to get through after they had led comfortably until injury time when Palace got fired up?

The game which was initially controlled by Spurs, but later switched tempo after James Maddison was substitued. Meanwhile, it was already near the 90th minutes. Palace might have found the little weakness in Spurs frontline to capatalised on for added minutes offensive and Ayew's volley got them the consolation goal neeed on home turf. The goal was contested against but VAR could not help upholding it. 

Ward's error was a disaster that wrenched Palace, nevertheless he compensated for that by adding his effort to Ayew's goal from throwing. Spurs' second goal had no influence of Palace's error, rather was a result of combinations of well-connected passes that Son needed minimum effort to finish off. 

Changes made by Ange Postecoglou was effective and made a difference as Johnson's assist in the build up to the second was just two minutes after he replaced Richardlison. 

Pape Sarr was instrumental both goals, and likewise Maddison. Sarr's cut-back to Maddison led to the opening goal and his deep cross found Johnson for flick header to Maddison for a break into Palace's box. 

Palace had multiple chances unconnected by Odsonne Edouard and they struggled at the front until Ayew got the right delivered to score.
