Premier League: Erling Haaland Nets Double As City Outshine United In Manchester Derby
Manchester United had a disappointing home game in a derby against Manchester City, and lost big time by 3-0 with Erling Haaland contributing a double to the victory.
United were for some reasons spineless against their nextdoor neighbours and committed a needless foul to hand off a penalty to City to take the lead in the first half.
City moved ahead from Erling Haaland scoring from the spot-kick and the Norweigian forward doubled the lead with a header from close range following Bernrdo Silva's cross.
Phill Foden whose earlier attempt at the goal was foiled by Onana later had another turn as he flicked into the net Haaland's cross following a poor parry from Onana into his reach.
It was City's third 3+ goal defeat of United in Premier League home game at Old Trafford, and United, so far, have lost half of their games this season.
Quick Overview
Just what you would expect of a Manchester derby, the game was electrifying and intense from both sides. Expectations were high from both teams until United began wane and City showing more readiness to move ahead which they soon did from the penalty.
Great saves from both Andre Onana and Ederson kept the scoreline as it was until halftime. On the brink of halftime, Ederson was well positioned for McTominay's volley and parried the ball into safety. Onana had earlier forced a save of Foden's shot from close range.
United might have not really got their cordination together to effectively put City on defensive while their opponents were getting much of the ball and Grealish is capitalizing on the left flank for a break in.
Rasmus Hojlund and Haaland remained terrific as it would be expected of they and both were closely watched by the defence. Hojlund could not make up with his neatest chance as onrushing Ederson quickly intercepted him and Haaland glance header was to Onana's parry.
Coming into the second half, City were well cordinated as to what they wanted soon after their return and that was evident in the build up to their second goal to which Alvarez and Grealish were involved. There was little Onana could do to stop unmarked Haaland's free header.
Rashford could have asked for a better chance than he had from Christian Eriksen's deep cross that should have been scoring moment but hit the ball just wide. There seemed to be lack of cordination going forward for United. City did the opposite as Foden was just in place to flick Haaland's cross into the goal.
With deficit of three goal, bringing on Anthony Martial and Anthony in the later stages of the game could not make any difference for United. City, however, really derseved to win and it just they were better side than United.
