Premier League: Arsenal See Off Manchester City At Emirates Stadium
Arsenal made it past a hard-fought game against Manchester City to win 1-0 from Gabriel Martinelli's late goal at Emirates Stadium.
The game had stayed goalless through both halves until 87th minutes whenTomiyasu headed an aerial ball to Kai Havertz inside the area and picked up Martinelli who struck the ball home. The shot deflected on Nathan Ake and beat Ederson to the goal.
City have not lost in three succesive games in all competitions for the last five seasons, and on this day, Arsenal made it happen against the EPL title defenders, who lost 2-1 away to Wolverhampton
Having to concede at this time sealed the victory for Arsenal, giving them a leap to second place behind Tottenham on equal points.
Quick Overview of the Game
Brilliant football from both sides, more of technicality of the game and individual skill to get something out of. Arsenal eventually did late into the game and the goal sent the audiences in Emirates Stadium wide.
Mikel Arteta left it late before adjusting on the attack with the substitution of Eddie Nketiah for Kai Havertz for fresh legs in the attack. In the defense, Takehiro Tomiyasu replaced Oleksandr Zinchenko, who had been put to serious test by City's Jeremy Doku.
The winning goal was cleverly taken from Thomas Partey's deep lob over to Tomiyasu in the box for the penultimate. Partey was making his first appearance since August and it was just 10 minutes after he replaced Jorginho in the midfield.
Erling Haaland barely had space to attempt shots at Arsenal's goal. He had just one shot at the target throughout the game. Phil Foden could not break in as expect. Arsenal technically left it until late to attempt getting a well-orchestrated goal.
