Europa League: Diogo Jota's Goal Gets Liverpool Comfortably Past Royale Union Saint-Gilloise
Liverpool made it past a tough game from Belgian side, Royale Union Saint-Gilloise with 2-0 victory to top their group after winning their second game.
Ryan Gravenberch put Liverpool ahead in the late stages of the first half, tapping home a loose ball from Anthony Moris' parry following a Alexander-Arnold's 20-yard shot.
Diogo Jota calmly finished off a loose ball that deflected to his path past Moris after Luis Diaz facilitated the chance breaking through the midfield.
The hosts did have their chances and Allison made good saves to keep the scoresheet clean for Liverpool.
Quick Overview of the Game
Fair start from both sidess and it took time for Liverpool to get ahead and that can be credited to goalkeeper Anthony Moris for making good saves in the face multiple attempts from the English side.
The opening goal was from Moris' goalkeeping error that proved costly. He had got away with not conceding from a number of chances especially the glaring chance missed by Darwin Nunez.
Union were able to stand up to Liverpool's repeatedly breaks into the 18-yard box. They even put Allison to test with Mohamed Amoural lobbying the ball over him following a fast break but luckily Amoural lost the ball to Konate's challenge.
After returning from the halftime break, Liverpool yet saw an even more resolved Union with the thirst for an equalizer.
Amoura made a couple of scare at Allison as the hosts got fired up and Alexander-Arnold was the stopper of a counter from the Union before he was substituted. Amoura yet against nearly got a consolation for the home side in the injury but Allison was to the rescue.
However, Jota's injury time goal settled it. Liverpool's victory was well-deserved from a hard-fought game in Belgium and that moved them up Group E with six points.
