Euro 2028: United Kingdom And Rep. Of Ireland Win Bid To Jointly Host Tournament

As confirmed by Uefa, the United Kingdom and its neighbour, Republic  of Ireland will be the co-host of the 2028 European Championship.

The body confirmed the hosting rights to the tournament by the two countries on Tuesday, and in attendance at the event in Nyon, Switzerland was former Real Madrid forward and Wales international, Gareth Bale.

Speaking at the event, Bale suggested Cardiff as the best venue for the opening session. However, having to host the competition does not guarantee a ticket to participate according to Uefa rules.

"We are excited," says Bale. "We've put forward a schedule of matches, we think Cardiff is the perfect for the opener and we look forward to it."

Turkey, initially, was also bidding for the same rights but later opted out to focus on 2032, instead. The joint bid by Turkey and Italy was also confirmed at the event.
