Champions League: Gabriel Jesus' Goal Leads Arsenal To Resist Comeback From Sevilla
Arsenal maintained the prospect of coming out atop of their group with 2-1 win on the road to Sevilla, and so far, remained unbeaten in three gmes.
Gabriel Martinelli put the side ahead latching on with Gabriel Jesus' through ball and carefully finished the effort after rounding Orjand Nyland. The lead was doubled soon after halftime as Jesus curled home the second goal following Declan Rice's assist.
Sevilla came back into the game as Nemanja Gudelj headed home Ivan Rakitic's cross from a corner. The scoresheet stayed the same for the rest of the game even though the hosts became more aggressive.
Arsenal have remained unbeaten both in the Premier League, and likewise the Champions League. They are participating in the competition for the first time since 2017 after a hiatus to their 19 seasons successive appearances under for manager, Arsene Wenger.
Quick Overview of the Game
The game was electrifying and Sevilla sort to make a comeback in the late stages of the game but Arsenal held their ground to make it past hard-fighting Spaniards, who for many time have defeated Premier League side in European Cup final.
Most part of the first half was fairly even for both sides until the clinical finish of an individual effort from Martinelli changed the tone of the game right of the stroke of halftime. Sevilla could not help upping the tempo of the game afterwards.
It was fortunate of Arsenal to have capitalized on Gudelj's error to take the lead soon after the break, otherwise they would have seen a much stronger resurgence from the LaLiga after pulling one back minutes after.
Hence, going a bit defnsive was the saving tactics for Arsenal as Youssef En-Nesyri became terrifying and nearly got the equalizer for his side. Ivan Rakitic also contributed to the offensive from the host but a resilient Arsenal saw the game through.
