US Open: Novak Djokovic Routs Ben Shelton To Reach Final
It was yet another victory to celebrate for Novak Djokovic as he eased through the semi-final to his 10th US Open final appearance after defeating home tennis ace, Ben Shelton.
The 20-year-old American had a tough time playing against the second seed who was making his 100th appearance at Flushing Meadows and was beating in three sets, 6-3 6-2 7-6(4).
With Djokovic seeking a fourth US Open trophy which would set him up against either Carlos Alcaraz or Daniil Medvedev, putting up an offensive against Shelton eased him through first and second set as the American committed multiple unforced errors.
Unlike the previous sets, Shelton put up a show of resilience in the decider and rallied on a break to level 4-4. He was able to hold the Serb to a tiebreak. At this point, Djokovic regained dominance and won a match point on the American forehand error.
Since the start of the season, Djokovic has reached all grand slam finals and making a 10th Flushing Meadows final appearance brings him on the same pedestal with Serena Williams who had reached the feat before him.
Should the final be set between him and Alvarez, it will be their second meetings since Wimbledon in July which the Spaniard who on his debut appearance.
