Pop Singer Asaké Opens Up On His Stage Name

Nigerian pop singer Asake is one of the artistes from the country making huge waves everywhere. Meanwhile, he did not just choose the name to mesmerise his fans, rather it was the other way round.

As some of his fans might have found out, Asake is a feminine name and that might have raised questions in the minds of some fans on what could be the reason for that? Whatever the curiosity could be he has come out to ddress that.

Ahmed Ololade as originally christined by his parents, explained that the name is actually his mother's and he did not just come up with it neither did it just pop up in his mind.

When asked about the name, he told Pause Magazine in their Autumn edition about how it all unfolded and dawned on him that going with Asake will be his best bet.

"My stage name is actually my mother's," he confessed. "While I was in the cultural group, people used to call me "omo Asake" which means child of Asake."

The Amapiano crooner explained further that over time, his fans dropped the prefix, Omo and would just refer to him simply as Asake. Apparently, using the name has paid off ever since his career picked up and it is to his delight to keep it that way.

He goes on to say: "It is very important to me and I'm not going to lose it. It is what has brought me this far and I continue to keep it that way."

Having won multiple awards including this year's Headies Award for Album of the Year for Mr. Money with the Vibe, the name Asake has really brought the singer a long way.
