Premier League: Manchester City Earn Tough Victory At Sheffield United To Keep Winning Run
Manchester City extended their winnings to its third and earned it tough from Sheffield United with a 2-1 victory.
City could have the net until after halftime as Jack Grealish's cross found Erling Haaland for a header beating Wes Foderingham to the goal.
Later into the half, Benie Traore capitalised on backheel clearance error from Kyle Walker and Jayden Bogle turned the ball in for an equalizer. But, Walker compensated for his error assisting with the winning goal as Phil Foden set off Rodri who turned the ball in with two minutes remaining.
Sheffield remained winless against City in 11 games and have lost all three games played so far in this campaign.
Quick Highlights of the Game
Fair play from both sides for most of the first half. City saw a strong defensive play from their hosts and could only manage a hand full of chance, which of course they could not finish off.
The closest City got to getting was Haaland's the missed spot-kick which he struck to clip the post. Before then, he was effectively silenced by Sheffield. The penalty loss will be his second since the side's last meeting with Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
Sheffield deserved an applause for carefully containing City, and more so, keeping tab on Haaland from slipping into dangerous area for a strike.
However, City came into the second half with a bit more aggression and barely allowed their opponents into their halve and that paid off with the opening goal from Haaland.
Sheffield should have sensed the goal coming as Haaland forced a saved from closed range following Kovacic's through ball and later followed with another attack at the goal from Alvarez from nearly the same angle.
The game began to change after substitution made by Sheffield, fairly infusing attack mode to the side that had played defensive for mode of the game. Boyle's goal was just the right effort they had wanted and it settled it only for a short time before Phil Foden assisted with the winner for City.
Grealish really put the hosts to work and ensured he cracked the defense from the left flank. For the hosts, Traore did a great job being the threat City had to keep on eye on but he began to have more room to run into City's after their substitutions. But, just as the hosts, Foden's substitution just paid off for City.
