Premier League: Chelsea Lost To 10-Man West Ham In Hard-Fought Game
Chelsea lost away from home in a hard-fought game with hosts, West Ham that sealed 3-1 home win despite playing 10-man for most of the seasons half.
The goals started coming in early but with huge gap in between anyway. Nayet Aguerd's header beat Robert Sanchez to the goal following a corner and West Ham took the lead in 7th minute.
Chelsea followed up later into the game with a brilliant strike from Carney Chukwuemeka that beat Areola to the goal following an assist from Ben Chilwell.
Enzo Fernandez missed the chance to put Chelsea ahead from a penalty as Areola forced a brilliant save.
West Ham regained the lead from a superb finish from Mikel Antonio who latched onto a through ball from James Ward-Prowse for a fast break and drilled a right-footed shot past Sanchez.
The hosts wrapped up the victory with Lucas Paqueta scoring from a penalty for the third goal in the last minutes of injury time.
Quick Run Through the Game
Quick start from West Ham. That paid off with the opening goal from Aguerd. Chelsea got punished for letting the player run free on Gallagher and leapt for a header that put Hammers ahead.
Fallen behind got Chelsea fired up. Raheem Sterling did a great run around with the ball, eventually, Ben Chillwell found a nice cut-back that landed on Chukwuemeka's foot for the attack that levelled the scores.
Chelsea, however, were meant to have build up a lead from multiple of chances they could not convert especially the penalty missed by Fernandez after Sterling was tripped in the box.
Upon returning from the halftime break, Chelsea came all out for the offensive but were punished sooner as West Ham broke loose on a fast break from Ward-Prowse's cross to Antonio to latch on to and finish off.
It is fair to say most of the second half was dictated by Chelsea and still they were not blunt enough to get the ball in. Meanwhile, their hosts lost Aguerd to a red card offense just after an hour of play.
Moise Caicedo handed off the penalty for his challenge on Emmerson in the box. It was an unfortunate debut for the newly-signed Chelsea player. Paqueta converted the spot kick and West went away with their first victory of the season on their second game.
