Dutch Grand Prix: Max Verstappen Claims Third Pole In A Row At Zandvoort
Max Verstappen returned from the Formula One break to clinch the pole of the qualifiing session at Zandvoort amidst adverse wet-to-dry surface condition that left some counterparts skidding into the barriers.
Verstappen had to improve on his pace from third earlier into Q3 and leapfrogged to pole, and leaving to trail was Lando Norris' McLaren who be making a front row start in P2.
Norris' McLaren was initially posting up an provisional pole, now there was a challenged to Verstappen to race up or miss poling on his home soil, which he did and moved up to the top as Norris could not lived up to beat his time. Norris finished second and will start in P2.
Winning the shootout will be the Dutch driver's third in a role on home soil. He had been dominant from the practice session but the surface conditions put the drivers to the test as the race was red flagged twice following the crashing of Charles Leclerc's Ferrari and Logan Sargeant's William.
The crowd-studded Zandvoort circuit sheered on Verstappen, and even though he won, the surface was too tricky. Former champion, Lewis Hamilton did not make Q3 and would start in P13 while his teammate, George Russell will start in P3.
Alex Albion was pipped to P3 by Russell, but notwithstanding, it was a fantastic race for his Williams to start in P4 as it will be his first finish in the top five. Starting behind Albion will be two-time F1 champion, Fernando Alonso in P5.
