Arsenal Win FA Community Shield Over Man. City On Penalties
The would have, should have over Arsenal dropping out of lifting the Premier League title last season might have just been settled as they defeated Manchester City on penalties to win the Community Shield after a 1-1 draw (4-1).
Hard luck for City to have lost the game from behind to Arsenal, who equalised late into injury time from Leandro Trossard's deflected shot and forced the game into shootouts.
City left it late until 77th minutes to take the lead from a well-aimed curly shot from Cole Palmer but as the game got into injury with 13 added minutes, Trossard restored Arsenal into the game, when his shot was deflected Manuel Akanji following an assist from Bukayo Saka.
Whilst only Bernando Silva scored his out of three spot kicks, Arsenal scored all theirs and Fabio Vieira scored the winning spot kick to see Gunners through the match.
City were bad not losers after all, they won Premier League, FA Cup and the their first Champions League title for a treble last season. The Community Shield, however, will be Mikel Arteta's third silverware for Arsenal and his second Shield since 2020.
