Paris Saint-Germain Announce Luis Enrique As New Manager
Luis Enrique has taken over from Christophe Galtier as Paris Saint-Germain new manager after the latter was sacked earlier on Wednesday.
The club confirmed the sacking of the Frenchman in a statement and expressed their gratitude to him for leading the team to win a "historic eleventh French Championship and as well as the Trophy des Champions."
PSG also confirmed that the decision to "end their first-team coach contract" was mutually agreed to with the former manager. Hours later, they announced Enrique as his replacement in a contract that will run until 2025.
Galtier only joined the club in July, 2022 and led the club to win the league title. However, he was unsuccessful in the Champions League where his team was eliminated in Round of 16 by Bayern Munich.
Enrique had been speculated to be in line for the job while the club and Galtier were in talks on his fate - he already knew his job was at stake. Enrique returned to football management after a short spell of redundancy since Spain's elimination from 2022 Fifa World Cup.
The former Barcelona and AS Roma manager, 53, has a Champions League, La Liga and Copa del Rey titles in his record at Nou Camp. Upon his signing, he has reached to out to Kylian Mbappe to rethink leaving and renew his contract with the club.
