"Get in there, Lewis!" said Mercedes team after racing past the chequered flag to pole. However, that did not just happen that Verstappen who is a regular face in pole missed out.
It was fairly dramatic from the start ad driver experienced traffic in Q1. Then, things get serious as battle for the front row got heated up Verstappen and Lando Norris, who poled in Q2.
By the way, George Russell failed to make it past Q1, and Hamilton was left to fight on for the team. McLaren's Norris set off another fight for the front but narrowly missed the pole to trail Verstappen whose time was in provisional pole.
At this time, Hamilton was giving it all he could pacing quickly, and to pole, he needed to post a time quicker than both Norris and Verstappen's. Coming out of the corner, the Briton got it fired up on the straight and came quickest by 0.003s earlier than Verstappen.
It will be Hamilton ninth pole at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Meanwhile, ahead of the qualifying session, he had poled at first practice session. That potentially might have got the former F1 champion fored up ahead of the qualifying session.
