Chelsea Confirm Cesar Azpilicueta's Atletico Madrid Transfer
Chelsea have confirmed the departure of Cesar Azpilicueta to join Atletico Madrid and ended his eleven years stint at Stanford Bridge.
The 28-year-old has completed the Medical tests with the Spaniards for a two-year contract transfer. His move was imminent after being spotted around the club's premises, Wanda Metropolitano earlier on Thurssday.
"Congratulations and good luck, Cesar. We'll be forever grateful," said the club in an official statement.
Atletico sealed the player's move after joining the race for him while he was linked with Inter Milan.
As several players have left the club in this window, Chelsea have completed the signing of Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson. More so, they are working towards a transfer for Brighton midfielder, Moises Caicedo.
Cesar joined Chelsea for a fair fee of about £7m from Marseille in 2012. He is now leaving as a free agent on mutual agreement with the club despite having a year left in his contract.
