British Grand Prix: Max Verstappen Narrowly Beat Lando Norris To Pole At Silverstone

McLaren delivered a stunning performance at the British Grand Prix qualifying session in Silverstone to have double front row starts for their drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri while Max Verstappen clinched the pole position.

Verstappen pipped the Briton to clinched the pole and dropped Norris who was on provisional pole to P2. It was a narrow win for the Dutch driver.

Though the track was slippery from the start due to weather - drizzled a bit, yet Norris started off with well from Q1 where he clinched the pole whilst Red Bull's Sergio Perez yet again failed to progress to Q2 just like he did last weekend at Canada Grand Prix.

Norris could not live to his pace in Q2 but the final saw his best as he moved up to pole whilst his teammate dropped Charles Leclerc one place down the stats - he later finished in P4 for Ferrari - before Verstappen posted the fastest lap in 1:260.720 seconds to take the top spot.

Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton could not win on his home soil neither could George Russell. The latter spurned off the track in Q1 and will start in P7 behind his teammate. Nevertheless, he said on an observation from the race: "it's not a blow. It's a wake-up call for us [Mercedes] that others are overtaking us and we need to do more."

Norris has not pole ever since his first at the 2021 Russian Grand Prix. Today's race will be his third front row in qualifying session since 2021 when he had his first at Australian Grand Prix.
