Belgian Grand Prix: Oscar Piastri Shows Resistance As Max Verstappen Wins Second Season's Sprint Race


Max Verstappen made most of the wet conditions Sprint race at the Belgian Grand Prix to clinch the victory in the all-out shootout race ahead of the final on Sunday. 

Red Bull did not have it easy as McLaren's Oscar Piastri put up a show of strength and was provisional lead after drivers pitted for new tyres until lap 6 when Verstappen came off his back and paced up down the straight to take the front row lead. 

Even as Verstappen maintained the lead through to the chequered flag, Piastri held on to the second place for his best permanent in any Formula One race in his career. 

Amidst the dramatic situation of the weather and tyres gambles, Alpine's Pierre Gasly delivered a wow performance making it to third position for his first front row finish in any Formula One race. 

The slippery condition of the track saw Ferrari's Sergio Perez and Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso with no damages sustained by their cars. Later into the race, Lewis Hamilton got himself into a bad situation when he collided with Red Bull's Sergio Perez and was penalised. The Mercedes driver finished fourth but was dropped to seventh. 

Ferrari's Carlos Sainz moved up to fourth following Hamilton's five second penalty  his teammate Charles Leclerc followed himself in fifth. Alpha Tauri's newly signed, Daniel Ricciardo put up a show of confidence during race but missed out on scoring points for finishing 10th behind Alpine's Esteban Ocon.
