Austrian GP Qualifying: Max Verstappen Wins Fourth Pole In A Row
It was yet another pole position for Max Verstappen at the Austrian Grand Prix sprint qualifying, making it his fourth pole in a row for Red Bull whilst his teammate Sergio Perez failed to make it to Q3.
The Q3 saw strong contest amongst drivers with Verstappen managing to pip Ferrari's Charles Leclerc to the pole with a tenth of a second - the Ferrari driver finished second. Verstappen time had already gone up and Leclerc could not improve past him but he did outpaced by his teammate, Carlos Sainz who finished third.
'It is great to be on pole here at the Red Bull Ring," said Verstappen. "It's very hard to judge the white line here, a lot of us got caught out so at least it wasn't just us."
Track limits got Perez into trouble in Q2 and could not progress into Q3 for having his track time deleted for the third time for exceeding the track limits.
"It is always fine margins at this circuit," said Perez. "The first two laps that I had deleted for track limits rules were clear and i accept those decisions from the stewards."
Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton also acknowledged the difficulties with the track limits and that it has always being for his car but he is satisfied with starting in P5 which he said is yet a "good and strong position" to be in the final on Sunday.
Starting in P4 was McLaren's Lando Norris and behind him in P6 iss Aston Martin's Lance Stroll. Fernando Alonso will be starting in P7.
