Austrian GP: Max Verstappen Wins Final Amidst Many Track Limit Penalties
Max Verstappen takes home his fifth successive F1 race win for Red Bull at the Austrian Grand Prix and further extended his season dominance for the F1 title.
As sweet as that may sound for the Verstappen, the race saw a couple of time penalties served some drivers for exceeding track limit. At the same time, Sergio Perez made a tremendous improvement from P15 to a podium finish in third - he failed to make it to Q3 for track limit penalty in Q2.
Charles Leclerc was also impressive but his Ferrari could not do the battle with Verstappen's after the Red Bull driver pitted and showed up for a takeover on the straight. Leclerc gave it his best on lap 35, but with better traction on Verstappen's new tires, all the advantage was for him to take. Leclerc finished the race in second.
Ealier into the race, chances of Lewis Hamilton making strong impact was ruined when he was served five seconds time penalty. Carlos Sainz also got a pinch of that after breaching the track limit. After a protest lodged by Aston Martin was looked into by Stewart, 12 drivers were demoted including Sainz who was dropped from P4 to P6 and Hamilton from P7 to P8.
Amongst 10 other drivers that bagged time penalty was Pierre Gasly, who was dropped from P9 to P10 and also Esteban Ocon was dropped from P12 to P14. Lando Norris got elevated to P4, George Russell from P8 to P7 and Lance Stroll moved up to P9.
