Spanish Grand Prix: Max Verstappen Poles As Hamilton Will Start In P4

Max Verstappen will be starting in pole for Red Bull at Spanish Grand Prix final whilst Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton was edged out by Ferrari's Sainz and McLaren's Lando Norris to finish fourth.

As Hamilton had desired ahead of the race, he really put his upgraded car to the test in Q1 and finished atop. He could not live up to that in Q2 and Q3 that saw an improved Verstappen take the pole.

The race was of some sorts dramatic for Mercedes as Hamilton battled with his team-mate, George Russell for position in Q2 and the latter damaged his front wing and was out.

Alphine's Pierre Gasly was another unfortunate one after he was served three-place penalty for impeding on Sainz and  Verstappen in Q2. The penalty lifted drivers like Hamilton from fifth to fourth. Likewise, Aston Martin's Lando Stroll and Alpine's Esteban Ocon moved a place up. Pierre will start in P10.

"At the time I tried to do the best I could with the information I had. There obviously are rules, anything that happened wasn't intentional," said Gasly.

The incident did not inflict costly damages on neither Verstappen nor Sainz as both drivers went on to finish in pole.
