Lionel Messi Confirms Interest To Join Inter Miami
Lionel Messi has opened up on a rumoured link to Inter Miami and confirmed his interest to join the club by the end of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain.
Besides his link to the American club, the former Barcelona ace also has Saudi Arabian side, Al Hilal on his list. However, as it is, he apparently would prefer joining the American Major League side after confirming that he is "going to go to Miami" and did not mention Al Hilal.
"I'm not going back to Barça, I'm going to Inter Miami," Messi told a Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo in an interview.
Barcelona was slammed with Financial Fair Play limitations in 2021 and that resulted in Messi having to leave Nou Camp and joined Paris Saint-Germain. Even if he nursed any interest in returning to Barcelona, the FFP limitations remained a discouraging factor to him.
"I'm missing some things but we decided to continue on the path. If the Barcelona thing didn't come out, I wanted to leave Europe, get out of the spotlight," said Messi.
Another reason that made his imperative for Messi to leave Nou Camp was financial trap which the club struggled with after the Covid-19 pandemic. It was necessary they let go of most of their valuable players.
Inter Miami is understood to be offering an annual wages of £43m for four years and that reportedly will include mouth-watering sponsorship deals from companies like Apple and Adidas.
