French Open: Iga Swiatek Wins For Back-to-back Title Defence

Iga Swiatek has emerged as the French Open champions for women's title after outlasting her Czech opponent, Karolina Muchova in the final in three set 6-2 5-7 6-4.

The world number one retained the title for the second time - first time ever back-to-back defence in the in Roland-Garros. The tittle made it her third at the tournament since winning her first in 2020.

Muchova did not get beaten cheaply by the title defender and gave it a showdown after a slow start but experience came to play for the top-seed and rallied at the decider to stop an upset from Czech.

Going into the final, Swiatek had enjoyed a sweeping run through the rounds and had not dropped a set until the second set of the final that saw a rally at 3-0 from Muchova and denied her opponent a break to win a set point.

The opener was not that favourable to the 43rd-ranked player as Swiatek broke on the first game and eased through to win the opener. The Polish affirmed her dominance on clay-court in a campaign for the third Roland-Garros title.

Meanwhile, it was a tough one for Swiatek in the decider as the Czech took an early 3-0 lead before she rallied and levelled 4-4 before breaking for a match-point to emerge as the champion.

Swiatek, 27, extended her Grand Slam streak to four and will retain her world ranking after earning 2,000pts from winning the tournament.
