Italian Open: Holger Rune Takes Out Novak Djokovic To Reach Semi-finals
Top seed and world number one, Novak is out of the Italian Open and Danish player Holger Rune has progressed to the quarterfinals of the tournament.
Rune wrapped the game up in three sets 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 as the top seed struck a forehand just wide for a match point to the Dane.
Djokovic did not seemed to be at his best and could not react quickly to drop shots from Rune. Though the top seed rekindled his tenacity in the second and break for a set point, Rune yet had a breeze through the decider.
The Dane had the upper hand in the match and even though there was a break in the second set due to rain spell, he remain composed on his skill to outperform Djokovic.
For the first time since 2004, neither Djokovic nor Rafael Nadal will be participating in the semi-finals as Rune will face Norwegian veteran Casper Ruud in the semis.
