Italian Open: Daniil Medvedev And Holger Rune Set Up Maiden Rome final
Daniil Medvedev is into the final of the Italian Open for a showdown with Holger Rune after he defeated Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas veteran in the semi-finals.
The Russian defiled rain spell and converted all four break points advantages he had to oust his opponent in straight sets 7-5 7-5 in tensed match.
"I enjoyed playing today. Though it was very tough with rain delays," said Medvedev. "Actually, it can throw you off. You can be a little angry but today I was just laughing at it."
Tsitsipas really had the tough side of Medvedev to deal with and potentially the rain spell was to his disadvantage, for having to lose on a rally leading at 4-5 by winning three games straight in the first set.
Just like the first, Medvedev did not have a breeze through but dominated on for match point from 5-5 and wrapped the match with an unforced forehand from Tsitsipas to a drop shot.
The final will see Medvedev and Rune contending for their maiden Italian Open Masters 1000 title. However, already, Medvedev has five Masters 1000 title to his career record.
