Premier League: Southampton Draw Arsenal To Upset Title Race
Southampton might have just thrown the Premier League title race wide open after a six-goal thriller that ended in a 3-3 draw against table leaders, Arsenal as they now lead on five points,
Disastrous floppy start from Arsenal sent them two goals behind Saints very earlier into the game and they had to rally from behind to force a draw at Emirates Stadium. However, that blunt finish from Arsenal cut through Saints' wall of defense to deliver the goals needed to draw.
Carlos Alcaraz put Saints ahead by capitalising on Aaron Ramsdale's error from a pass and slammed in the opener in the first minutes. Shortly afte that, Alcaraz set off the second goal with a through pass to Theo Walcott for the finish for the second goal following a fastbreak.
Gabriel Martinelli steered home a swift shot for Arsenal's first goal from Bukayo Saka's cross but soon after halftime, Duje Caleta-Car headed home Saints' third goal.
As the situation became precarious for Arsenal that could not afford a loss with two minutes remaining, Martin Odegaard's individual effort produced the second goal and Saka lashed a rebound ball into the goal for the equalizer on stoppage time.
Saints are in no way getting better off for winning the game as they are at the bottom of the table, however, having to beat table leaders, Arsenal is the first time in the league for a team of their position to score three goals against a team atop the table.
