Champions League: Loss To Real Madrid Put Chelsea On Edge

Chelsea have a tough game ahead if they want to remain in the Champions League after losing 2-0 to Real Madrid in the first-leg tie of the quarterfinals.

Defending champions, Real have edged closer to reaching semifinals and Chelsea were not the side better enough by half to hold them down by the way. Ben Chilwell even made the situation worse when he was red-carded for fouling Rodrigo.

The opening goal was somewhat classic for Real. It happened in the first half that Vinicius' touch on an aerial ball was saved to Karim Benzema's reach for a tap from close range.

Chelsea did not get better rather Chilwell was sent off in the second half for dropping Rodrigo on a fast break. That was later followed by Marcos Asensio lashing home Vinicius' through pass and double the lead.

There were a couple of chances for Chelsea but their inability to finish off yet persisted. The loss was their four consecutive without scoring.

Blues remained winless even under their new manager Frank Lampard who was appointed to replace Graham Potter. By the way, the game was a reunion for him to meet his former manager, Carlos Ancelotti.
