FA Cup: Man United Keep It Late To Beat West Ham
Manchester United are through to the FA Cup quarter-final but they kept it really late to find the needed goals to win 3-1 from a comeback against West Ham at Old Trafford.
United capitalized on costly defensive flops from Hammers to make it through the game, however, they stood the better chance and their sustained pressure late into the game culminated in two goals on stoppage time to wrap up the game.
Goals didn't come in not until second half when Said Benrahma's curly shot beat David de Gea to the goal and Hammers went ahead before Nayef Aguerd's own-goal from a header following Bruno Fernandes' corner leveled the scores for United.
Hence, Hammers were faced with pressure from United and that paid off when Alejandro Garnacho was let alone in the box and curled home the second goal on the stoppage time. Then, followed Fred who finished off Wout Weghorst's pass from inside the box for United's third goal.
The late interventions were a combination of defensive flops on the part of Hammers and great sense of composure from both Garnacho and Fred who made most of those great chances that determined the fate of the game.
Hammers did have their fabulous chances in the first half most which was from Michail Anthony whose attempts forced brilliance saves from David de Gea. The side were really impressive but could not make use of those chances to get the needed goals.
Erik ten Hag have just returned from clinching their first silverware since 2017 at the EFL Carabao Cup on Sunday and they now coast to doubling their trophy for reaching the quarter-final of the FA Cup.
