R Kelly Gets Another 20-year Prison Sentence
R Kelly situation has got even complicated as a federal court has sentenced him to 20-year in prison after he was found guilty of child sex crime.
The singer is already serving a 30-year prison sentence after a Chicago court convicted him of eight-count charge of sex trafficking and one-count of federal racketeering on June, 2022. However, the new sentence handed is meant to run concurrently with the previous.
Prosecutors handling the case reportedly urgued the court to let the sentence be served separately stating that it is "the way to ensure he will not reoffend". The artist lawyer, Jennifer Bonjean argued against stating that the singer, who is 56-year-old is "likely to die" behind bars following the sentences.
Dark clouds of sexual allegations had been hanging around Kelly since 1994 when he was allegedly married to late R&B singer Aaliyah, 15 at the time but he was later deemed innocent because the female artist was believed to have lied about her age.
Another sex related offences with minor by the artist surfaced in 2002, of video recordings of various illicit sexual conducts of various kinds with underage victims. The case was later dismissed and Kelly beat all the charges against him.
News later broke as reported by Buzzfeed of the singer's sexual escapees in 2017, when the Chocolate Factory singer was charged to court for running what was described as "sex cult" at his resident in Atlanta. He was accused of holding his victims against their wish and would determine what to eat, drink, and even when to sleep.
