Lacoste Boss Goes Off At Nike In Defence Of Novak Djokovic
Lacoste boss is not having any criticism of their brand ambassador and tennis ace, Novak Djokovic as he reacted to comments that held negative perceptions of the player.
Brand director, Thierry Guibert issued some strong words in support of the Serbian reacting to a tweet expressing his delight in having the player on their brand.
"Lacoste is so proud to have Nole," Guibert wrote replying a tweet. "And would never choose Nadal (with due respect to him). Thanks."
Guibert comparison of Novak to Rafael Nadal was following the stance of Nike boss, Mike Najakima on Novak describing him as someone with bad image unlike his counterpart who he regarded as having a "sqeaky clean image".
Why did Najakima have such perception of Novak? Well, that has to do with controversies surrounding the player and as he mentioned in an interview on CNN he is not having his disqualification for hitting a lineswoman at the US Open in 2020 and his refusal of getting COVID-19 vaccination.
"He could well be the most successful tennis player ever. But there's always a dark cloud around him. It's like he brings it upon himself. He hits the lineswoman at the US Open and gets disqualified? It happens, I guess." said Najakima.
The incident happened in Round 16 when the Serbian hit the ball in frustration at a lineswoman. He assisted the assailed woman to get up but she was in a bad condition and medical attention was needed. He was disqualified afterwards for his action.
Najakima continued: "But why does it always happen to Novak? Or the whole controversy about Covid-19 vaccination. Now, as a brand: do I want to be behind somebody who always has controversy around him? Or do I want to go with an athlete with a squeaky clean image?"
