EFL CArabao Cup: Manchester United Are Champions
Newcastle conceded two goals in the first half and had no chance to recover from the deficit leading to United emerging as the winners of the trophy.
Luke Shaw's free-kick set up Casemiro for a header from close range that beat Loris Karius to the goal and to United ahead in the 33rd minute. Soon after, Sven Botman deflected in Marcus Rashford's shot for United's second goal.
Bruno Fernandes and Rashford later made two attempts that forced brilliant saves from Loris Karius and his side was eventually denied their first silverware since 1969. Meanwhile, the game was both sides' first meeting in an English competition final since 1998/99 at the FA Cup - Man. United 2 0 Newcastle.
The last time United won a trophy was under former manager Jose Mourinho at the UEFA Europa League in 2017. Erick ten Hag have now brought the team's silver-drought to a halt.
