Designer Wins Adidas Lawsuit Over Stripes
Adidas has lost a lawsuit filed against an American luxury brand owner, Thom Browne over sampling of its three parallel stripes logo.
The German sportwear maker argued in court that the four parallel stripes logo used by the American designer can sort of confuse their customers and demanded that Thom deceased from further use of the logo and payment of £6.4m in damages be made.
Thom argued against Adidas on the basis that his brand only targets wealthy buyers and comes at prices that are well out of reach of the plaintiff's customers. On this ground, the New York court ruled in favour of Thom.
Adidas has been going through a lot lately following their contract termination with Kanye West that left a huge hole in the company's revenue. On top of that, losing a lawsuit to Thom is another setback to the that sportswear brand.
Back in 2019, Adidas was denied extending its trademark rights to the 'three parallel stripes' logo by an EU court that branded the logo as not substantial enough for registering.
