World Cup 2022: Morocco Make History, Reach Semifinals
Morocco became the first African team to reach the semi-finals of the Fifa World Cup after a historic 1-0 defeat of Portugal in Qatar.
Portugal's hope of contending for the trophy suffered an irredeemable setback when Attiat-Allah's cross found Youssef En-Nesyri Cheddira for a header that beat goalkeeper Diogo Costa to the goal and Morocco took the lead in the first half.
Morocco was able to hold down to the lead until the end despite the introduction of Cristiano Ronaldo as substitute early after halftime break and even when Cheddira was red carded for a second yellow card offense in the injury time.
There were moments Portugal came close to getting an equalizer especially with Bruno Fernandes' individual effort struck the woodwork late into injury time.
Ronaldo burst into tears after the game but it was a record setting game for him as he played his 196th international game for Portugal.
