World Cup 2022: Croatia Claim Stunning Victory Against Brazil To Reach Semi-final
Croatia fought back in the extra-time to claim victory over Brazil on penalties and are through to the semi-finals following a thrilling quarter-finals that stretched into the extra-time and was decided on shoot-out by 4-2.
This is second successive time that Croatia will be in the semi-final of the Fifa World Cup and they did so by defeating Brazil for the first time.
Neymar Jr. found the needed goal in the extra time that ended the long deadlock for Brazil as he finished off a cut-back from Lucas Paqueta to give Brazil the lead. Unfortunately for the Brazilians, Bruno Petkovic leveled the scoring in the second half of extra-time.
Most of the first half witnessed Brazil being held down from making any significant impact on the game by Croatia while Josip Juranovic repeatedly troubled the brazilian defense.
There were a couple of chances for the Brazilians especially from Neymar and Vinicius Jr. in the first half half just that there force in the shots were weak enough for goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic to save. Yet again after the halftime break, Neymar made two strikes that was saved by Livakovic.
Eventually, in the extra-time, Neymar turned out to be the star of the day as he inspired a strike, did a one-two ball with Rodrygo and then with Paqueta and finished off the ball first dribbling Livalovic before a lash on the ball into the net.
The second half of the extra-time, Croatia fired back and Mislav Orsic's cross found Petkovic for a left-footed shot from inside the 18-yard box and beat Allison Becker to the goal.
Croatia have progressed to the semi-final and will face the winner between Arentina and Switzerland on their quarter-final game outcome.
