World Cup 2022: United States Progress To Last 16
The United States have progressed to the Last 16 of the Fifa World Cup in Qatar, and the Iranians, who lose 1-0 to the Americans are out of the competition on three points. So also have Wales on one point after losing 3-0 to the England in the last Group B game.
Christian Pulisic was the scorer of the lone goal in the first half and that strike was just enough to see the team through the game as the Iranians fought back but were unable to find the back of the net.
Weston McKennie's cross inspired a break and Sergino Dest connected a header to the ball to Pusilic, who latched onto the pass and steered the ball in for the winning goal.
Iran repeatedly came close to leveling the scoring especially when Saman Ghoddos' curled shot missed the goal and Ramin Rezaeian's header from close range went wide.
The Americans will progressed to meet the Netherlands in the Last 16 having finished second in Group B. England will face Senegal who finished second in Group A.
