World Cup 2022: Senegal Advances To Knockout Stages
Senegal is through to the knockout stages after a 2-1 defeat of Ecuador, whose players could not hold back their emotions as they slid to the third position of Group A and are out as a consequence.
Ecuador came into the game on four points from a win against Qatar and a draw against Netherlands but all that effort could not take them through as Ismaila Sarr and Kalidou Koulibaly's saw the Senegalese through.
Senegal took the lead when Ismaila Sarr scored from a penalty late into first half and Moises Caicedo tapped in a header pass following a corner to level the scoring after the halftime break.
Ecuador would concede a goal minutes later to exit the competition as Koulibaly finished off a flick over from header following a free-kick.
At the blast of the whistle, the Ecuadorians were amazed to watch themselves exist the competition from the group they were in a good position to make it past and some players could be seem overwhelmed by their emotions.
The Netherlands finished atop of Group A on seven points after beating the host team Qatar who finished bottom of the table.
