World Cup 2022: France Takes Big Win Against Australia
Australia's World Cup campaign in Qatar has suffered a huge setback after losing 4-1 in a comeback to the defending champions, France.
France gave the iropponents a showdown of what it means to be defending champions and came out strongly to win by such a margin literally dominating the game as they are vying for the country's third Fifa World Cup trophy.
The Aussies enjoyed an early goal when Harry Souttar's cross deep from the side's half found Leckie who squared a through pass with Craig Goodwin and he slammed in the ball nine minutes into the game. The scoreline was equalized when a superby cross from Lucas Hernandez got to Adrien Rabiot for a header that beat goalkeeper Mathew Ryan to the goal.
Minutes later, a defensive error cost the Aussie the second goal as Olivier Giroud tap home Rabiot's pass and France took the lead. Kylian Mbappe added the third in with a glancing header from Dembele's cross after break and he later assisted with the cross for Giroud to nod home for the fourth goal.
Australia started well but they could not match the tenacity of France who clinically took down their defense using aerial balls to gain needed advantage to score.
France now leads Group D with three points and Tunisia and Denmark followed in second and third position respectively following a goalless draw played earlier.
