World Cup 2022: Cristiano Ronaldo Scores Historic Goal As Portugal Beats Ghana

Cristiano Ronaldo led the way to Portugal's 3-2 win against Ghana in the country's opening game and he becomes the first player to score in five World Cup tournaments.

Portugal was faced with a resilient Ghana that nearly forced a draw but they held on to their comeback lead and outperformed their opponents.

Ronaldo had first had a goal ruled out for rough tackle in contest for the ball before he scored from a penalty and put Portugal in the lead.

The Ghanaians responded in a fast break and Andre Ayew poked on Mohammed Kudus' low-cut cross amidst a defender and goalkeeper Diogo Costa.

Portugal regained the lead five minutes  later with Felix Sequiela and de Conceica Leao respectively adding in two goals before Osman Bukari got the second goal in for Ghana.

All the five goals came in after the halftime break following a goalless half. A goalkeeping error from Costa could have cost Portugal too much in added minutes to the game as Inaki Williams made a steal of the ball from behind but two defenders quickly responded and clear the ball to safety.

Portugal now leads Group H on three points while Ghana sits at the bottom as South Korea and Uruguay are second and third respectively on one point.
