Paris Masters: Holger Rune Wins Maiden Title Beating Novak Djokovic In Final

 


Holger Rune has for the first time in his career won his first title and he did that at the Paris Masters having defeated former champion, Novak Djokovic in the final in three sets, 3-6 6-3 7-5.  

"To stay here with the trophy. it's an amazing feeling," he recalled the opening round scare against Stan Wawrinka. "Something that was tough to expect, starting the week off three match point down."

Rune came into the tournament first having to survive a tough first round against Wawrinka that he had to save three match points and yet outlasted the Argentine veteran. 

The Dane, 19, en route the final defeated Canadian ace Felix Auger-Aliassime and Spanish Carlos Alcaraz and lifted his first ATP Masters 1000 title which is expected to move him up in world ranking to top 10. Rune will also be participating in the ATP Final following his title win in Paris 

"It's a pleasure to share the court with you [Novak Djokovic]," said Carlos. "I really enjoyed my time at the tournament here and I can't wait to be back here next year."
