Premier League: Arsenal's Table Lead Narrows After Draw With Southampton
Southampton have dealt a blow to Arsenal's race to retain table lead as they now lead their closest rivals by just a point after sharing points with Saints after a 1-1 draw at St. Mary's.
Gabriel Jesus could not register in a goal for Arsenal despite multiple chances and moments after he missed finishing a glaring chance from a fast break, Saints made a quick break that led to Staurt Armstrong's finish from inside the box and equalized Arsenal's lead.
Arsenal took the lead after Ben White inspired a fast break, doing a one-two ball with Bukayo Saka and laid a low-cut cross through to Granit Xhaka, who slammed the ball to beat goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu to the goal eleven minutes into the first half.
Saints improved on their game after the halftime break and they leveling the scoring was out of cordinated passes that took down Arsenal's defense. That started from the midfield with Adam Armstrong finding with a pass Mohamed Elyounoussi, who dribbled his way to into the box and connected Staurt with a cutback which he finished off with one touch on the ball.
The draw lifted Saints three places away from relegation zone with 12 points as Arsenal now narrowly lead in the top spot with 28 points.
