Cristiano Ronaldo Gets First Europa Game Goal As Man United Beat Sheriff
Cristiano Ronaldo is having his first ever Europa League goal stint of his career, and also his first with Manchester United and scored the winning goal in a 2-0 victory against Sheriff Tiraspol.
United came into with a three-point deficit from the first game defeat to Real Sociedad and needed a win against Sheriff to climb up the table. They found relief when Jadon Sancho scored the opening goal.
Excellent dribbling skills from Sancho gifted United the opening goal as he brilliantly finished off a reverse pass from Christen Eriksen early into the game. Jadon later came close to doubling the scores but Sheriff's defender Radejic cleared the ball from the crossline into safety.
The Portuguese forward, Ronaldo later followed and brought his goal-drought to the end by scoring from a penalty drawn by Diogo Dialot when fouled by Patrick Kpozo. The forward who is faced with criticism for his goal barrenness from the club fans could have got a double but side-footed the ball just wide.
Ronaldo is now a goal shy 700 club goals benchmark. He leads in the Champions League all-time scoring feat with 141 goals followed by Lionel Messi with 126.
