Western & Southern Open: Borna Coric Beats Stefanos Tsitsipas To Win First Masters 1000
Croatian ace Borna Coric is, for the first time in his career, an ATP Masters 1000 title winner after he defeated Greek opponent Stefanos Tistsipas in a comeback to win the final of the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati.
Tsitsipas lost the bid for his third ATP Masters 1000 trophy in straight sets 7-6(0) 6-2 to Coric on their third head-to-head meeting which the Croatian leads by 2-1.
Coric. who defeated British ace Cameron Norrie in the semis, staged a stunning rally from 1-4 in the first set and won five straight games and forced the set to enter a tiebreak which he had a clean sweep through.
The decider was of some sort a breeze through for him after he was able fend off pressure from Tsitsipas having committed many unforced errors and yet took a 4-2 lead and had a ease through to win the biggest title of his career and his third ATP tour-level trophy.
Rafael Nadal was beaten by the Cincinnati champion in the second round and he went on to beat players like Roberto Bautista-Agut and Felix Auger Aliassime. He dropped just a set en route winning the title.
