Western And Southern Open: Cameron Norrie Beats Tough Carlos Alcaraz To Reach Semifinal

British no. 1 Cameron Norrie delivered a sensational display of skills in a hard-fought match to beat Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals of the Cincinnati Masters.

Norrie was up and ready to withstand the Spaniard's style of play that comes with stunning drop shots and is such that's very agile at reacting to shots. All that didn't pay not for him against the Briton who won in three sets 7-6(4) 6-7(4) 6-4.

After three hours long match, Norrie couldn't help but admitted that winning was "unbelievable". However, he explained he had to match Carlos' "physicality" and ensure he didn't get points off him easily.

"I just had to try to put the ball in awkward positions in the court," said Norrie. "I managed to serve well, I improved a lot on my previous matches."

Carlos, 19, had 13 break advantages but only converted two while Norrie made three breaks in eight advantages and hit 25 winners and 30 unforced errors.

Carlos made an incredible rally from 4-1 in the second set, and though, the Briton a rally from 4-0 in the tiebreak he was met with a strong resistance from Carlos who later claimed two set points to win.

The decider was almost like Carlos was going to have a ride over Norrie after taking a 3-1 lead. Norrie rallied to take the lead and saved a break to force a tiebreak. Carlos lost out as the world number 11 served an ace for a match point and won to reach the semi-finals.

Norrie will in the next match take on Croatian opponent Borna Coric. Should he make through semis, he will be up against either Stefanos Tsitsipas or Daniil Medvedev in the final.
