Top Gun Tops Billion-Dollar Benchmark
Top Gun: Maverick is the most successful film for Tom Cruise as it continues to soar higher at global box office to surpass the billion-dollar benchmark.
The film has dethroned Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness which was previously the year's most successful film with a gross of $973m globally. Top Gun has racked up just over $1billion worldwide to be the year's number one grossing film.
In North America, Tom Cruise's action thriller sequel yet takes the top spot of the year's highest grosser with $521m. In this market, it has also overtook Doctor Strange that was leading with $409m.
In this weekend box office chart, a newly released film Elvis tied up with Top Gun to top the chart with $30.5m each in the domestic market. Elvis is a film on the rise of Elvis Presley to stardom. It is centred on the Rock 'n' Roll icon journey through life and his many affairs especially with Priscilla.
