R Kelly Goes To Jail For 30 Years

Popular American R&B singer R. Kelly has been sentenced to 30 years in prison over his conviction of sexual assault of young girls and women.

The sentence of the artist was pronounced by a US District Court Judge Ann Donnelly in New York on Wednesday despite the convict's lawyer's prayer that his client be sentenced to 10 or lesser years.

Kelly's lawyer blamed his childhood experience of being sexually molested by a family member and a landlord for what later caused the singer's to be a sexual predator.

"It may explain, at least in part, what led to your behaviour. It most surely is not an excuse," judge Donnelly said.

Last September, Kelly was convicted of eight count charge of violating a sex trafficking law, Mann Act, and one count charge of federal racketeering.

Prosecutors handling his case accused the singer of using his fame, public status and connections to lure young girls, boys and women to satisfy his sexual desires.
